Be transported to the heady days of Summer with the flavours of Calabrian Bergamot Peel, Green Gordal Olives from Spain, Rosemary "the Dew of the Sea" and the tiniest pinch of Mediterranean Sea Salt.  In the 1800’s there were many colloquial names for gin that were used in different parts of London, on The Old Kent Road (or the Kent Road as it was known back then) circa 1865 “King Theodore of Corsica” became a popular synonym for the cheap penny-a-glass gin sold in that area. Truth be told it wasn’t a gin inspired by the botanicals of Corsica but was instead named for one Theodor Stephan Freiherr von Neuhoff, a man whose extraordinary life saw him crowned the King of Corsica in 1736, but saw him condemned to a debtors prison in London by 1749. Perhaps with a healthy dose of schadenfreude“King Theodore of Corsica” became something of a cult hero amongst London’s working classes after his death, and thusly did they celebrate him in the name of their favourite tipple. His gravestone can still be seen today in the walls of St Annes Church in Soho. When, in 2016, we opened our brand home; The Distillery on Portobello Road, we decided to revive this name and create a new King Theodore of Corsica Gin, inspired by the flavours and aromas of the Mediterranean. It quickly became one of our most popular gins, so we now bring it into the Portobello Road Gin family as this Portobello Road Savoury Gin.Distilled with classic gin botanicals like Juniper, Coriander and Angelica, we alsointroduced Calabrian Bergamot Peel, Green Gordal Olives from Seville, Rosemary“The Dew of the Sea,” and the tiniest pinch of Mediterranean Sea Salt.
